End of an Era
31 March 2014 by Tony Fisher
Fisher Jones Greenwood partner Chris Graves (pictured) has retired after more than forty years practice. Chris joined the practice of Greenwood Page & Ward in the High Street in Colchester in 1973 and became a partner in the firm in 1975. In 1996 he was one of the partners who negotiated the merger of the firm with Fisher Jones and since then the combined firm of Fisher Jones Greenwood has gone from strength to strength and now have six offices in Essex and central London.
Chris has specialised in advocacy in family law but over the years has undertaken many types of case. He has appeared in courts across East Anglia and the High Court and at one time was a leading specialist in courts martial cases, representing officers and soldiers both at Colchester and in Germany.
For the last twenty years he has had a leading reputation as solicitor advocate in family cases and landlord/tenant. He served as Borough Councillor in 1980-1984 and as President of Suffolk & North Essex Law Society in 2001-02. He has been a member of numerous local organisations and chaired Colchester Quaker Housing Association and the Governors of Colchester County High School. He is currently a Governor of the Sixth Form College.
Although he will leave the law completely he intends to continue his interests as a local and family historian, helping others to find their past and also to promote Colchester’s fascinating history.
Tony Fisher, senior partner of Fisher Jones Greenwood, said : “Chris Graves has been at the heart of the expansion of Fisher Jones Greenwood and well known by lawyers across the region. This is the end of an era but the firm and clients have benefited from the contribution he has made. We wish him a long and happy retirement.”
