Tony Fisher, Senior Partnership Member
Senior Partner Tony Fisher is the head of the commercial department. He undertakes Company/Commercial and partnership work, advises charities and is engaged in the firm’s international practice. He has wide experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate re-structuring, and drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
Fisher Jones Greenwood has been recommended by the Legal 500 Guide for its work in Corporate and Commercial Law and clients of Tony Fisher say he is ‘an excellent person to work with’. He has an MBA in Legal Practice and is a member of various trade and business organisations including the Institute of Directors and the International Division of the Law Society. Locally, Tony is a trustee and company secretary of firstsite, a visual arts trust which in 2011 occupies a new visual arts centre in Colchester designed by Rafael Vinoly. He is also a Board member of the Colchester Institute, a large further education college with sites in Colchester, Clacton, Braintree and Maldon.
Aside from his commercial work, Tony also undertakes international and domestic human rights work and has appeared as an advocate in the European Court of Human Rights on many occasions. He is a Fellow of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and is a member and former Chair of the International Human Rights Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales

Katy Fordham, Solicitor
Katy is a Solicitor in our Commercial Law team. She completed her LPC at the London College of Law and her law degree at the University of Surrey.
Katy has particular expertise in acquisitions, partnership work and drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. Intellectual property is of interest to Katy who works on matters including the registration and enforcement of intellectual property rights together with drafting and negotiating licensing and confidentiality agreements. Katy also undertakes Commercial Litigation including general disputes such as contractual claims and the recovery of debts. Katy is based at our Charter Court office on Severalls Business Park.

Haddy Jack, Solicitor
Haddy is a solicitor in our Immigration team. As a specialist in Immigration law, Haddy has in-depth experience of dealing with asylum, human rights and immigration matters including appeals, applications for permission to appeal and judicial review. Her work also includes Deportation and Administrative Removal, Access to a Child and other family member applications, Long Residence applications, British Citizenship, Spouse, Civil Partner, and Unmarried Partner applications, Tier 4 Student visas, and EEA applications. She has regularly appeared as an advocate in both the First Tier Tribunal and the Upper Tier Tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber. Haddy's experience also includes working for Kingston University where she specialised in advising students on Tier 4 (General) Student and Tier 1 Post Study Work visa applications and appeals. She also advised members of University Staff as to their Tier 4 sponsorship duties particularly in relation to enrolment, and advised on general immigration including Sponsored Researchers and Academic Visitors under the Business Visitor immigration route. Haddy previously worked as a Legal Officer for the Refugee and Migrant Justice, which involved training and advising caseworkers on immigration, asylum and human rights laws and practice. She is a qualified Barrister in the Republic of the Gambia and a non-Practising Barrister of England and Wales. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Sheffield and a Master of Laws in Public International Law from the University on Nottingham. She completed the Bar Vocational Course at Nottingham Law School in 2004. Haddy became accredited to Level 2 (Senior) Caseworker under the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme in 2006 and is now an accredited Supervisor.

James Burkett, Partnership Member
After many years working in the City as a consultant James joined the firm in 2001 and is now a Partnership Member. He has a first class law degree and has successfully completed the Civil Academic Training and Assessment in Procedure, Evidence and Ethics, and Civil Academic Training for the purpose of applying for Higher Rights of Audience as a Solicitor Advocate. He currently undertakes commercial litigation work and advises on other matters which include administrative law, private international law, off-shore trusts, option agreement disputes, employment issues, professional negligence claims, banking and construction disputes, as well as advising clients on complex legal issues. James also has considerable experience in Chancery work and Court of Appeal work and is a member of The Professional Negligence Lawyers’ Association and the Civil Litigation Section of the Law Society. James is recommended in the Legal 500 guide 2010 for Commercial Litigation.

Kate Taylor, Partnership Member
Kate is a Partner within the Family team. She has extensive experience in conducting complex financial cases involving property and also cases involving children. Kate is the Partner in charge of Family mediation at the firm. She qualified as a family Mediator in 1991 and Commercial and Civil Mediator in 2002 and has since practised this work in conjunction with her work as a Solicitor. She is also a Professional Practice Consultant (PPC) in Mediation. She has the following accreditations and qualifications: Resolution accredited member with specialisms in financial provision and the law relating to children; trained in the area of Collaborative Law (2005); a member of the Law Society Mediation Panel; a member of the Panel of Mediators for the Court of Appeal Mediation Scheme; a member of the Family Mediators Association; an ADR UK trained Civil and Commercial Mediator. She is a board member with the Family Mediators Association and a trustee of a local child contact centre. She is also a member of the Essex Family Justice Council. Kate is a keen horsewoman who has owned and been involved with horses since she was a child. She currently keeps a horse in livery and rides as often as she is able.

Ashton Carter, Trainee Solicitor
Ashton is a trainee Solicitor in the commercial team based at Charter Court. He studied for his law degree at the University of Essex, qualifying with a strong 2.1 honours degree in 2008.
He then qualified from BPP Law School with a Commendation for the Legal Practice Course (LPC) in 2009. His chosen electives whilst at Law School were Private Acquisitions, Equity Finance and Advanced Commercial Property and he obtained a commendation award in Business Law.
Ashton is particularly interested in commercial, company and partnership work, including drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, acquisitions and working with charities. Ashton also undertakes commercial litigation work and assists the employment team.
