On 01 March 2011 Essex County Council announced the results of its consultation on faith school’s transport. This consultation has taken place as a result of plans to significantly reduce the Council's budget for home to school transport.

Families across the UK, including Essex, are now hearing where their children have been allocated secondary school places for September 2011. As yet it is unclear how many children have been allocated their first choice of school but BBC News has reported that early figures suggest a rise in the number of pupils getting their first preference.

Essex County Council's budget and budget cuts were approved on 22 February 2011. So far little information is available to confirm the budget cuts but BBC News has confirmed fears that a cut of £4.7 million has been approved from the home to school transport budget.
