As its name suggests, this is the way a Court can decide some issue, other than
residence or contact, where the parents cannot agree. It may be combined with a
Prohibited Steps Order.
These issues are not common because, thankfully, most people are able to
resolve disputes either between themselves, alone or through mediation. A Court
can decide any major issue. It could be whether a child should go to a
particular church or school; to have specific medical treatment; or any issue
concerning the child's welfare or upbringing.
Probably the most common issue of this type is a change in a child's name,
for which you will need to look at the separate notes..
