Legal Help
The first stage of the legal process, Legal help (often called the "Green Form" scheme from the days when the form was bright green !) is available to anyone qualifying on the means test, for advice and help on any problem of English Law. It can provide up to two hours of help from a solicitor, covering initial advice; letters, telephone calls, and negotiations; and then applying for full Legal Aid for court proceedings if it is needed. The solicitor can extend the two hour limit on work to ten hours in difficult cases.
There are special arrangements for Legal Help in connection with Family Mediation. This covers the cost of the mediator and legal advice during the mediation process. The capital limit is £8,000 and the income limit £672 per month so many more people qualify.
