Charlotte puts her best foot forward

A Colchester solicitor who has overcome serious back injury is to run the London Marathon for two charities close to her heart.

Charlotte Knappett a family law solicitor at Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP will be raising much needed funds for Colchester and Tendring Women’s Refuge and Spinal Research.

Charlotte, who is based in the family department, works closely with clients who have been victims of domestic violence providing them with legal advice and advising on the protection courts can offer them.

She said: “Both charities are very special to me. Spinal Research is special for obvious reasons, but I dedicate the majority of my time at Fisher Jones Greenwood helping people who are suffering from domestic violence. I have worked closely with Colchester and Tendring Women’s Refuge, with whom we have strong links, assisting women to obtain injunction orders. I feel a great sense of achievement in being able to help women, and men,  in abusive relationships to live without fear of further violence.”

Charlotte suffered severe back and neck injuries when she was involved in a road traffic accident in August 2004 and is currently in training with her running club the Colchester and Tendring Athletics Club. She is being sponsored by Fisher Jones Greenwood which also carries out pro-bono work for Colchester and Tendring Women’s Refuge.

Charlotte added: “Colchester and Tendring Women’s Refuge is a marvellous organisation which often does not get the recognition it deserves. There are many people in abusive relationships and the very latest figures show that domestic violence occurs in one in four intimate relationships which is a staggering figure. I hope by running the marathon and raising funds I can raise awareness of the work it does.”
