Businesses urged to help community

Organisations across Essex are being invited to offer their help and support to their local communities as part of an initiative during National Pro Bono Week.

The Essex Community Foundation and Business in the Community ProHelp are holding a joint presentation on ‘Social Philanthropy: Giving or Getting?’ hosted by Colchester solicitors Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP.

The event is being held on Thursday (November 15th) at FJG’s Charter Court offices, in Newcomen Way on the Severalls Business Park, from 6pm to 8pm.

ProHelp is a national programme established by Business in the Community which involves professionals from 800 firms who are committed to making a difference in the community by offering free advice and support.

The Essex Community Foundation is an independent charitable trust which plays a key role in the development of local philanthropy and resources to sustain communities.

FJG Senior Partner Tony Fisher said:"Many firms don't publicise the work they do for ProHelp, so National Pro Bono Week is essential to help raise awareness of their collaborative work - free of charge - for the benefit of communities across the UK."

“We also want to let voluntary groups know that this support is available to them and, of course, we aim to encourage other professional firms to get involved too."

Fisher Jones Greenwood has received three national accolades for its Pro Bono work, offering free professional advice and support to charities and community groups in Colchester and Tendring.

Most recently the firm has helped Colchester’s Youth Enquiry Service to secure new premises in Head Street and their work has been chosen as a case study for National Pro Bono Week (12 – 17 November).
