Exclusive fundraising lunch raises thousands for local charity

Recovering from breast cancer, Kim McDermott Brown has had plenty of time to reflect on life in the past year. She wanted to thank the staff at the Colchester Breast Care Unit for all the hard work and support during her treatment. Kim rallied her solicitors, Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP in North Essex together with Coutts Bank of Chelmsford to support a fund raising initiative to host a ladies lunch and shopping experience.
The idea became reality on 28th September, when more than 100 women from all over the region came to Le Talbooth in Dedham to enjoy browsing through a wonderful array of stalls in a magical setting by the river Stour followed by lunch and a talk by Mr Simon Marsh, consultant breast surgeon at Colchester and Harley Street, about cancer cells and its treatments. Other speakers included Mr Jan Michalak, head gardener & historian at Lifehouse. Local-based television personality Becky Jago (pictured) added glamour to the event with her master of ceremonies role and there was a raffle and silent auction with amazing prizes as diverse as an electric bike, a year’s golf membership for two, a week in a Gite in France and a lunch in the private dining suite at the historic Coutts building in the Strand, to name but a few.
Tony Fisher, senior partner at Fisher Jones Greenwood said, “We are amazed and thrilled with success of this prestigious event and the money this has raised. This acknowledges the skill and dedication of the team at the Colchester Breast Care Unit and the lifesaving work they do across the region.”
Future fund raising events are planned for the unit and if you would like to donate to support the unit in your own way, please do contact Penny Hepburn on [email protected], or by calling 01206 835300.
