Spice Up Your (After) Life
5 November 2019 by Lauren Hancock
In the past few years it has become apparent that the word ‘funeral’ does not adhere to a uniform or regulated service. Many people are looking toward innovative and contemporary ideas to mark their death as well as celebrate their life. This is evident in both funeral service plans and furthermore the instructions for their body.
Here’s a whistle-stop tour on all the latest funeral trends!
The Bio Urn
The Bio Urn is a biodegradable urn that converts you into a tree. This is becoming increasingly popular, especially due to its environmentally friendly nature. It has been noted that this natural burial lessens the formality of visiting a grave and can work to put family and friends at ease.
Though somewhat unorthodox, the process of placing ashes into a memorial firework has become vastly popular. The idea of sending your loved one off with a ‘bang’ seems to be an appealing alternative for many families.
For those who loved the sea, Memorial Reefs may be the perfect option. The process involves the ashes being mixed with concrete, moulded in a specially designed container in the shape of a reef and once complete, sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
Perhaps a more conservative option than the above, but still an interesting alternative to the standard burial plan is ‘Remembrance Jewellery’. This is where the ashes are transformed into a wearable accessory and it a way to keep your loved one with you at all times.
A Vinyl Remix
This one is especially relevant for any big music lover! It is now possible to have your ashes pressed into a vinyl, so you can forever be reminded of all the musical memories shared with family and friends.
