Mootis – The social platform dedicated to legal professionals

20 January 2015 by Marketing Team

      Mootis

      What is Mootis?

Mootis, launched by Bill Braithwaite QC, is a bespoke social media platform built for the legal world, whether you are a solicitor, paralegal, trainee or simply work for a law firm. It really does not matter; there is a place for you on Mootis regardless of your position. Perhaps your wonderment for the legal practise is in its infancy? Then get yourself on Mootis to observe real time discussions and begin learning.

All the features you expect from a social platform are available. You can post videos, images, blogs and audio files as well as create polls and surveys. But the top feature of Mootis is the absence of the 140 character restriction we see on Twitter. Therefore, according to Mootis, allowing us to truly express ourselves “with more authority, weight and substance”. One thing we love at Fisher Jones Greenwood is the read time feature of posts, which offers the reader an estimate of how long it will take to read.

      Is Mootis worth my time?

Have you heard of Brian Inkster, the founder of Scottish law firm Inksters Solicitors? Well Brain has nearly 7,500 followers on Twitter and the firm were the first from Scotland to have an account; surprise, surprise – he is on Mootis too. Furthermore, The Law Society and The Law Gazette are both present on Mootis.

As with all social networking, how much you earn from Mootis really depends on how much you put in. Being active could lead to hundreds or maybe even thousands of followers. Or perhaps you are more inclined to stick with following people and brush over gaining your own audience. Either way, this is the place for you; just be clear of what you are looking for. Enter the world of Mootis with an open mind but clear goals and we think you will see what you are looking. If you compare Mootis to other platforms and ignore its unique selling point, then you may be wasting your time.

      Our final thoughts

These are early days for Mootis and no one knows what the future holds for them, but there are no obvious reasons why life won’t work out for the social platform. When we reviewed Ello last year and found it too be a little complicated. Features were obscured by their desire to be cool, but Mootis is the complete opposite. The design is clean and simple, navigation is straight forward and features simply make sense. Nothing is confusing about the platform.

Mootis is a completely fresh approach to social media as the genre is specifically law. Much like LinkedIn the platform is happy to restrict itself in terms of overall users compared to Facebook and Twitter, to provide a legal hub operating in real time. Will Mootis become the place to go for everything and anything legal? Only time can tell, but there is definitely some hype around the new social platform.
