QualitySolicitors FJG raise over £5,000 for Charity
4 April 2012 by Susanne Grimwade
Last year, QualitySolicitors made a remarkable difference to the lives of people living in extreme poverty across the world. QualitySolicitors FJG took part in Will Aid 2011 for the seventh year running, raising a whopping £5,425 for the nine Will Aid Charities. Head of department Kate Wombwell, a partner at the firm, said; “To be able to do something like this is incredibly important. Our clients are bowled over that we do this work for free! It gives us a nice, warm feeling to be able to make a contribution – and we often challenge each other to do more.”
Since being founded in 1988, Will Aid has enabled legal firms to raise over £11 million for nine of the UK’s favourite charities, by donating their fees for will writing to charity during the month of November. The campaign has helped thousands of people to write their Will – meaning they can benefit those in the greatest need, whilst caring and providing for their dependants.
Across the UK, Wills and probate solicitors raised more than £2 million, beating all previous records. Over 23,000 people made a Will through the scheme during November and avoided the pitfalls of dying intestate or not using a legal professional to draft a properly thought out Will.
Participating solicitors like QualitySolicitors FJG’s Susanne Grimwade were introduced to a large number of new clients, many of whom had never set foot in a solicitor’s office before. “Many of the clients we saw were first time will-makers. Will Aid provides the perfect incentive for people to make a Will – particularly for new parents and I have had further instructions as a result.”
Despite the hard work, the majority of participating solicitors really enjoyed the experience and felt that it was of benefit to their business. Richard Hildrow of the Clacton branch describes how the 2011 campaign worked for the firm. “Last November we wrote Wills for 100 or so individual clients. We will definitely take part again in 2012! We are so pleased that we can contribute in a small way to such a worthwhile global cause.”
Laura Mead, Christian Aid’s Legacy Officer for London and the South East, who visited the firm on behalf of the Will Aid Campaign, said:
“Christian Aid, and the other eight Will Aid charities, are so grateful for the support of firms like Quality Solicitors FJG – their hard work and the efforts of every solicitor who took part in the campaign have paid off, achieving an impressive result. The money raised is shared between the charities and goes directly to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the UK and overseas.
But what is even better is that people who take part in the scheme by making their Wills with a Will Aid solicitor in November, are getting a fantastic professional service – whilst doing so much good elsewhere. If you haven’t made a Will yet, don’t put it off any longer! Visit a Will Aid solicitor this November, and you can make a difference not just to those in your immediate family, but worldwide.”.
