Searching for a care establishment for yourself, or for a loved one, can be extremely difficult. There is an abundance of questions; should I be looking for somewhere that is comfortable or clinical? Is the location practical? Does it have the right facilities? Are the staff helpful and kind? Are there communal social areas? Is it clean? Will I/they like it there? And that is to only name a few.
What we don’t want to have to worry about, when making this decision, are the financial aspects. Yet, with the current rise in care facility pricing, this is becoming an unfortunate reality for many across the UK.
One particular study found that the average cost of residential care in 2017/18 was an astonishing £32,344 a year and if nursing care was also required this figure increased to £44,512. It was furthermore found that the price peaked for residential care in the South East area with the average weekly cost coming to £732 and therefore totalling an average of £35,136 a year.
To put this in perspective, the previous year found that the average weekly fee for care in the South East was £702. Consequently, the yearly fee was £33,696. These figures show a substantial 4.3% increase in fees.
So statistically, the reality of care looks daunting to say the least. However, this mightn’t be the case.
