I am currently a third-year law student with the aim of becoming a Solicitor. I was lucky enough to discover the one-week work experience that Fisher Jones Greenwood offers to aspiring Solicitors. During my time with FJG, they introduced me to the brand-new level 7 graduate solicitor apprenticeship.
The online apprenticeship is a 30-month programme provided by BPP where the graduate apprentice will develop their legal practice skills and familiarise themselves with the legal environment. BPP’s has a minimum entry requirement of a 2:1 honours degree in law or a 2:1 honours degree in a non-law subject and a minimum of a pass in PGDL/GDL.
The programme consists of five legal practice modules which are studied over 20 months, with the remaining time focusing on coursework and preparation for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). Studying the SQE privately can cost over £4,500, therefore it is a no-brainer to apply to FJG Graduate Apprenticeship where it is funded, you earn while you learn, and they provide one day a week towards study time. What’s not to like!
Whilst learning, not only will you be sat around experts in law at FJG, but the scheme also provides tutors who are qualified professionals to further support your journey. Therefore, there will never be an absence of help.
The work experience at FJG has displayed that the transition to the legal environment from university is tough, which wasn’t stressed by my university. The exposure that the apprenticeship provides is an essential part of learning the day-to-day roles as a Solicitor, which an integrated master cannot teach you.
