The EU Settlement Scheme fully opens from 30 March 2019. What does this mean?

The scheme confirms that the rights of EU citizens and family members will not change until 31 December 2020. However, those EU nationals and their family members who are currently in the UK or are outside of the UK and who want to live in the UK after the 30 June 2021 must ensure they apply for “Pre-Settled” or “Settled Status”.

“Pre-Settled Status” is status which will be issued to those EU nationals who are currently in the UK, who enter the UK before the 31 December 2020, but they have not lived in the UK for 5 years.

By obtaining “Pre-Settled Status” in the UK they will be allowed to continue to live in the UK after 30 June 2021.

“Settled Status” is status which will be issued to those EU nationals who are currently in the UK, who enter the UK before the 31 December 2020, and have lived in the UK for 5 years.

By obtaining “Settled Status” in the UK you will be allowed to the stay in the UK for an indefinite period.

The deadline in which to apply is 30 June 2021.
