As part of our commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace, colleagues at FJG have set up a focus group to promote and celebrate diversity. The objectives are to raise awareness; signpost to training; and engage with community groups, amongst other things.
The focus group is putting together some terms of reference to outline the purpose, aims, objectives and operation of the group.
In the interim, you may know that we have already engaged with Stonewall. This is with a view to promoting their Diversity Champions programme to ensure all LGBT staff are accepted in the workplace. The FJG focus group is also committed to promoting difference, acceptance and respect and to raising awareness on issues such as:
- Mental health;
- Wellbeing and stress;
- Faith;
- Disability;
- LGBT;
- Gender;
- Race;
- Age; and
- Socio-economic status
Over the coming months, the focus group will be highlighting and discussing various aspects relating to, but not focussing exclusively on, the above. To this end, we are promoting Time to Change, which is a growing social movement trying to change how we all think and act about mental health. Please see the link below to their website.
https://www.time-to-change.org.uk/about-us
Time to Change is looking to improve public attitudes and behaviour towards people with mental health problems and to reduce the amount of discrimination that people with mental health problems report in their personal relationships, their social lives and at work. Time to Change is also trying to make sure even more people with mental health problems can take action to challenge stigma and discrimination in their communities, in workplaces, in schools and online and we at FJG support that.
The FJG focus group is proud to promote Time to Talk Day on 1st February 2018 – this is our opportunity to have a conversation about mental health.
