In September 2022 we welcomed our first Solicitor Apprentices to FJG.  This is the first time FJG has offered solicitor apprenticeships.  It provides another all-inclusive way to start a career in law.

We are currently offering two apprenticeships through BPP.  The first is available to individuals who have at least 5 GCSE’s and three ‘A’ Levels, they do not have to have a degree.  The course duration is 6 years and incorporates a university degree and preparation for the SQE.   You will learn the knowledge and skills to become a qualified legal professional.  At the end of the course you will achieve and LLB (Hons) in law and legal practise and will sit the SQE.

The second apprenticeship is open to those who already have a 2:1 honours degree in law or a 2:1 honours degree in a non-law subject and a minimum pass in a PGDL/GDL.  The course duration is 2 and a half years.  The programme builds on existing knowledge and skills of law graduates and those that have completed a conversion course.  You will gain confidence using the core legal tasks that are expected in practise and will also undertake the SQE.

The programme is delivered through online live classrooms offering interactive online sessions at scheduled times.  The Virtual Practice Environment simulates realistic client-based scenarios so you can apply your knowledge to practical cases.  Using BPP Adapt you will be able to track you progress.  There are a total of 5 modules, one module being delivered per 15 week term over 5 terms.  Each week you will have a study day during which you will have a 2 hour online workshop with tutor support.  The BPP learning platform will allow you access to video lectures, digital reading and case studies.  You can test your learning and understanding through test questions.

You will have a dedicated Coach who have practical industry experience as well as expert tutors who are highly qualified in the industry.  FJG will work closely with your coaches and tutors to support your learning and there will be regular reviews to ensure you are continually developing and progressing your skills and knowledge.

Throughout the apprenticeship there will be regular checks to ensure you are meeting the expectations of the programme.  You will need to collate a portfolio of evidence which will be required for the final assessment and there will also be formal assessments during the programme.  Once you have completed the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours and passed the SQE1 you will complete an End Point Assessment which is the SQE2.

You must also satisfy the SRA’s character and suitability test and once this is done you will qualify to be a solicitor.

If you are interested in applying for one of our Solicitor Apprenticeships or have any other questions please contact Anthony Edwards or Su Elvin.
