Tony Fisher

Chair

Tony Fisher is the Executive Chair of the firm. He has over 40 years’ experience in private legal practice and has been listed as a leading practitioner for corporate and commercial work in both the Legal 500 and the Chambers directories for a number of years. He has an MBA in Legal Practice and is a member of various trade and business organisations. In January 2018, he was awarded the Modern Law Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the legal profession. Others who have received this award include Baroness Hale the former President of the Supreme Court, and in 2023 Dame Fiona Woolf former President of the Law Society and Lord Mayor of London. In October 2018, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Essex at the University Centre Colchester. Tony is also a CEDR accredited mediator.

Aside from his commercial work, Tony also undertakes international and domestic human rights work and has appeared as an advocate in the European Court of Human Rights on many occasions. He has also been a Fellow of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and is a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales. He also sits on the Council of the Law Society as the representative for the Essex constituency and the International Committee, which oversees the international work of the Law Society, and on the Access to Justice Committee.

In March 2022, he was appointed as the UK representative on a new Committee of Experts on the Protection of Lawyers at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The Committee’s job is to draft a new instrument on the protection of the rights of lawyers in Europe.

Tony is recognised in the 2025 Chambers Directory as a Band 1 ranked lawyer, alongside the recent 2025 Legal 500 Directory as ‘Leading Partner’.

Away from FJG Tony undertakes a lot of voluntary human rights work and enjoys wine, new technology, interesting old cars, photography, travel and spending time with his family of four sons, three stepdaughters and a tortoise called Aubrey.
