As any law student will know, work experience is like gold dust. Without work experience, it is incredibly difficult to secure a place anywhere in the legal world, and it is for this reason that I must firstly emphasise how grateful I am to Fisher Jones Greenwood. However, as I hope this blog post will show the reader, the week I spent with FJG was so much more than a box ticked on an application. Not only am I able to say that I have increased work experience (an opportunity in itself), but everything I did during this time was incredibly stimulating, interesting and provided a great insight into a career in law.
So what was my week like?
Given the bizarre times we are living in, my work experience was virtual. I was seriously impressed by how FJG were able to maintain such a high-quality experience in spite of this. Each day was something new, but the standard remained; I was consistently supported and challenged throughout.
During the week, I was lucky enough to spend time with the Wills, Life Planning & Probate, Family Law, Dispute Resolution, and Commercial Property teams. This variety meant that I was able to gain an amazing insight into many different areas of FJG and law. Particular highlights were the opportunity to use my initiative to draft an Estate Ledger; using Practical Law to draft a Tenancy at Will, and being exposed to the fast-paced Dispute Resolution team (an area of law I am now particularly intrigued by!). However, no matter the department, there was not a single moment during my time at FJG where I was bored or had nothing to do. The variety of work was fantastic and, once again, I cannot thank everyone I worked with enough. The final day was also brilliant. The opportunity to develop my interview skills and CV with legal professionals is invaluable and so I feel very lucky to have done this at FJG.
To law students who are looking for that all-important work experience, who are looking to further their understanding of the legal profession, and who are looking for a friendly yet competent firm to do this with: look no further!
