June 2022 marked the moment that I finally got the opportunity to see one of my favourite bands, The Score, live in London. It would be an understatement to say that I have been waiting a long time for this, as I was initially meant to see them live in March 2020, having had the tickets bought for me as a present by my wife – for Christmas 2019.
26 months late, but still very much worth the wait.
For many people reading this, you probably have never heard of The Score, an American rock band that have been used by Netflix films, Norwich football club and even featured as part of the Super Bowl in 2021.
However, the bands rise can be specifically linked to Asda, yes you heard me right. In 2015, Asda used their song “Oh My Love” for one of their adverts. Because of this, the song reached number 43 in the UK singles Chart and The Score signed their first record deal (the full story can be found in these BBC article, if you are interested:- How a supermarket broke US indie band The Score – BBC News).
The story of The Score’s rise to fame, as well as my path to finally seeing them live, is a perfect example of never knowing what life has in store for us. Unexpected events, both positive and negative, can completely change how or where we thought things were going.
It is for this reason I always advise clients to keep their affairs, including the Wills, Powers of Attorneys and potentially estate planning under review. When we prepare documents of this nature for clients, we will do as much as we can to future proof them, but we can never prepare for all eventualities.
Wills, for example, are drafted based on a client’s circumstances at the time and the advice will be based on the law currently in place. However, either a person’s circumstances or the law (or both) can change and these changes could not have always been foreseen.
Even if legal advice is not sought, I always recommend a client review their documents every 4 or so years, just to check what they have and ensure that it is still reflective of your circumstances. If you then wish to discuss this further with a legal professional to get more detailed advice of your options, both I and my colleagues would be more than happy to help.
If I or any of colleagues at Fisher Jones Greenwood can assist you with your Will or estate planning matters then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01206 835261 or via email [email protected].
