This past week saw the release of Fast X film goers by storm, as it raced to the top of the box office in the US. Although I have not seen it yet myself, I must admit that the Fast & Furious films are very much a guilty pleasure, as the ridiculousness of the films cannot help but entertain.

What started out as a film predominantly about street racing back in 2001, it is safe to say that each film has continued to push the boundaries, all while retaining one common thread. “Family”.

Whether you have only watched one film or are a fan of the full series, one thing that becomes quickly apparent is that the family is a dysfunctional one, with friends becoming enemies, enemies becoming friends.

As unrealistic as the stunts in the film are, the complicated family dynamics within the film are very much routed in reality.

In my 10 years of practice, I have seen the number of disagreements when dealing with Probate increase as the nature of families has changed. Whether it be arguments between siblings, spouses from first or second marriages, step children or grandchildren, the very fact that families have become more complicated means that making sure that you have properly considered your own estate planning could be vital to ensure that disagreements are mitigated or avoided altogether.

Whether that planning includes the preparation of your lasting powers of attorney – to ensure that persons you trust will make decisions when you are unable to do so yourself – or the drafting of a Will – to ensure that your estate is distributed amongst your family in a clear manner – the Private Client team at Fisher Jones Greenwood have the knowledge and experience to advice you how best to navigate those more tricky family situations.

We would hope that, with our help, you can sit back and enjoy the cinematic dysfunctional family in the Fast films on the big screen, instead of watching it play out in real life.

If I or any of colleagues at Fisher Jones Greenwood can assist you with your Will or estate planning matters then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01206 835261 or email [email protected].
