FJG becomes only Colchester law firm with members on the Equity Release Council

We are pleased to announce two further appointments to the Equity Release Council (ERC) – the main industry body for the Equity Release sector. The latest appointments take the total number of Equity Release specialists to five across the firm’s offices in Essex; and also positions FJG as the only law firm with Equity Council Members in Colchester.

When taking out an Equity Release product, the ERC ensures consumers are treated fairly; and in-line with best practice by service providers. Put simply, Equity Release refers to the products which allow you to access the capital tied up in your home; if you are over the age of 55. During this process an individual will require a solicitor to advise on the implications of Equity Release. It also ensures that all eventualities have been thoroughly considered. A client will also require a solicitor to facilitate the completion of Equity Release.

Equity Release Council Members

FJG have five members on the Equity Release Council; Susanne Grimwade, Andrea Godfrey, Amy Burton, Sarah Rankin and Claire Martin. Being members of the Equity Release Council gives these individuals access to knowledge, training and events for the Equity Release sector; ensuring the most up to date expertise. This means the public can feel secure and safe when choosing a council member to lead and advise them in this tricky area.

FJG is the only law firm in Colchester to have members on the Equity Release Council; and is also one of few law firms in Essex with members. Having formed more than 25 years ago, the ERC now boasts 300 member firms and 900 individuals nationwide.
