A newly appointed Wills and Probate specialist in Sudbury has urged residents to put their affairs in order, following new research which shows that nearly half of UK adults have not made a Will.

Pippa Bavington, who has been appointed as a Partner in the Wills, Life Planning and Probate team at Fisher Jones Greenwood, says the figures highlight a worrying trend that could leave families facing unnecessary stress, disputes, and financial difficulty.

“Many people assume they don’t need a Will until they’re older or have significant assets, but dying without a Will can cause real complications for loved ones,” she said. “Making a Will is one of the most important things you can do to protect your family and ensure your wishes are carried out.”

New research, published by The National Will Register, found that 47% of UK adults have yet to make a Will, with many admitting they ‘haven’t got round to it’ or wrongly believe their estate will automatically go to the right people.

Pippa is encouraging people of all ages – particularly those with children, property or business interests – to seek professional advice and ensure their Will is legally valid and up to date.

“Just because something’s written on paper doesn’t mean it’s legally valid or does what you think it does. It’s like ordering a suit online. It might look fine but it won’t necessarily fit. A lawyer is like a tailor: we make sure everything is properly shaped around your needs.

“Client service with compassion is key for me,” she said. “Clients are going through difficult times and need legal know-how, but what they often appreciate most is a kind and friendly word or face.”

Pippa advises and assists clients in a range of matters, including probate administration, Will preparation, inheritance tax, powers of attorney, and trust work, including trusts for vulnerable and disabled persons.

She is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP) and, although based mainly at the Sudbury office in Market Hill, is also available to meet with people at work, home, hospital or online.

She added: “We’re also delighted to support the vibrant Sudbury Farmers Market, held on the last Friday of each month in Market Hill, which offers a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with the local community.”

Paula Fowler, CEO of Fisher Jones Greenwood, said: “Pippa brings not just experience but a calm, thoughtful approach that puts people at ease. Her appointment strengthens our commitment to providing reliable, community-based legal services across Suffolk.”
