It is that time once again when one of my favourite sporting events is in full flight – the Tour de France. As I write this, the riders are entering their second week as they take on some of the toughest climbs in France and it is here that the race will be won or lost.
Watching the Tour also encourages me to get out on my bike even more than I normally would. Don’t get me wrong, I try and ride regularly throughout the year and have completed numerous races, but watching the riders as they navigate the cross winds, the cobbles and the climbs only inspires me to do the same, or at least try.
I have been lucky enough to see the riders in person, as well as watching the stages live on TV, and I am often in awe at how incredible they are – how they can fly up a climb as if it is nothing, while I will have slogged, puffed and cried my way to the top of the very same climb.
They excel at what they do and they have and continue to train to remain at the top of their game. A professional cyclist I certainly am not.
Working as a solicitor, especially in Private Client that at times can be an incredibly technical area of law, I can appreciate the work that the cyclists put in to excel at what they do. Like them, I have had to train for years to qualify and, even upon qualifying, I cannot rest on my laurels and am continually training and finding ways to become better at my job, all to ensure that my clients get the best possible service.
Over the years, I have often found that the more complicated matters I have been asked to deal with often involve a Will, Trust or estate has been dealt by someone who does not have the same level as training and experience as I or my colleagues. This can prove costly, create disputes and often be upsetting for the people involved.
In the same way I can say with confidence that I will never ride the Tour with the pros, it is wise to ensure that your Will, Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney or Estate are dealt with by a skilled and trained professional.
At FJG, the culture of the Private Client team (and the firm as a whole) is about ensuring that getting expertise should be accessible to all. If you wish to find out more about this, of if I or any of our team can assist you with anything I have raised in this blog, then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01206 835261 or via email [email protected].
