We are pleased to announce the launch of case studies of work undertaken by the FJG Planning Consultancy and Sharon Smith. Throughout 2020, FJG’s Planning Consultancy has continued to help many local businesses move forward planning projects. We hear from three local business clients and how FJG has helped them bring their plans to fruition.

Sir Issac’s Artisan Coffee Ltd

The first case study is from James Channing who owns Sir Issac’s Artisan Coffee Ltd; he wanted to expand his business and open a coffee shop in a permanent location after success in running a stall on the Colchester market. FJG were able to successfully help this enterprising business by submitting a planning application for change of business use and change to the fixed front entrance window to make a serving hatch. James praises Sharon of the FJG Planning Consultancy for understanding his vision from day one. Sir Issac’s Artisan Coffee opened in September and is now a popular coffee stop for Essex locals.

Shoulder of Mutton Antiques and Collectibles Centre and Licensed Tea Rooms

Secondly, we heard from Jon Neill, local Essex businessman, looking for a new venture he purchased the Shoulder of Mutton in Fordham. The old public house was in need of, both, change of use and listed building consent, to convert the building into a Vintage Tea Room and Antiques Centre. Jon highlights Sharon’s ability to be hands-on, liaise, and choose the most suitable third parties for a cohesive project and come up with solutions, if needed, in a positive way. The Shoulder of Mutton Antiques and Collectibles Centre and Licensed Tea Rooms has been open since October.

Town Greens Farm

Next, we heard from Jenna Ackerley of Town Greens Farm, she has worked with Sharon for the past two years since purchasing 20 acres of agricultural land in Suffolk, seeking to diversify the land for community benefit and commercial advantage. Her most recent project was to acquire a change of use for their existing barn, planning permission for two new structures, and multiple stables and paddocks, all of which have recently been successful. Jenna believes Sharon to be a true partner not just for Planning but for general strategy, with her contacts, knowledge, and experience being invaluable. Jenna commends Sharon for being instrumental in transforming the land for viable commercial enterprise.
