Rebuilding shattered lives is the latest campaign from the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. The purpose of the Rebuilding Shattered Lives campaign is to allow people who have been injured to have access to justice and access to the care and support that they need to assist them on their road to recovery. All too often people are made to feel ashamed about bringing a personal injury claim, whether that is as a result of a road traffic accident or as a result of medical negligence. However, people who suffer an injury caused by the negligence of someone else need and have a right to rebuild their lives. Whether their injuries are short-term or life-changing, injured people deserve our empathy and understanding and as a nation, we need to be more focussed on what genuinely injured people need rather than questioning their motivation and misconceptions about the lawyers who fight for their rights.
Key messages for the Rebuilding Shattered Lives campaign
The latest campaign from APIL tells the real story of personal injury and of people who need expert support to help them build a brighter future.
An injury can happen to anyone
- The first thing to highlight as part of this campaign is that negligence does not discriminate. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, and when it does it can have devastating effects on the lives of those injured and the lives of their loved ones.
An injury is often preventable
- The second point to highlight is that injured people are often forced to bring claims for compensation to help rebuild their lives because they should never have been injured in the first place. In every case we deal with the incident was preventable had someone been either doing their job properly or driving with due care and attention.
An injury can affect both mental and physical health
- Thirdly, whenever someone has been involved in an accident they will often then go through a very dark time in their lives, experiencing immense pain, financial burden, and a general feeling of loneliness. It is therefore essential that these people have access to a supportive team of specialists who can help to rebuild their lives.
An injury claim is not always driven by money
- And finally, pursuing a claim is not always about receiving a monetary sum, there are often years spent treating an injured person before any money exchanges hands. The main focus with any claim is for that client to achieve full recovery wherever possible. Specialist lawyers can assist a Claimant with accessing additional care and treatment, which is not always readily available in an already stretched NHS.
An injured person has the right to be treated with fairness and compassion and has a right to access justice. A specialist team of lawyers can help them to achieve this and help them to move on from what is nearly always an extremely traumatic experience.
